  1. RISE UP! A Teen Art Exhibit

    RISE UP! is a teen exhibition program that will showcase the talent, creativity, and perspective of today’s teens. Whether through visual artwork, digital, video, creative writing, spoken word, music, or other performing arts, the exhibit will include works that communicate what it means to be a teen in the world today. RISE UP! will include an online gallery, a juried gallery exhibit, and performance opportunities. These teens are going to RISE UP! and let their voices be heard!

    calvART is a cooperative gallery located in Prince Frederick, MD, and affiliated with the Arts Council of Calvert County. calvART is a showcase for artists from Southern Maryland and highlights work from a wide range of styles and media.   3. Calvert County Annual Farm to Table Breakfast

    The Calvert County Farm Bureau will hold its Annual Farm to Table Breakfast on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 7 am to 10:30 am at the Calvert County Fairgrounds. Featuring local meats, eggs, jams, honey and so much more! Proceeds benefit Calvert County Farm Bureau’s scholarship and youth leadership programs.

  4. Taste of Solomons

    Taste of Solomons is a one-day food festival showcasing the many wonderful places to eat in this lovely waterfront community. Restaurants and Shops Offer Tastes of Fine Food and Beverages New tastes abound in the historic Town Center as restaurants showcase selected food and beverages during the one-day food festival. The event is one of the yearly signature events designed and sponsored by the Solomons Business Association, with proceeds to benefit the association’s annual July 4th fireworks display. Taste of Solomons provides the community a way to sample and enjoy a waterfront town during the Spring season, according to Taste of Solomons Co Chair Christopher Donaldson. Tickets will be available at participating businesses as well as Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices McNelis Group Properties across from the gazebo in Solomons Island. This location will also have a credit card machine to purchase tickets. This is truly a wonderful way to kick off the coming season.

  6. CELEBRATE MARLAND AT HOMESCHOOL DAY IN SOLOMONS

    March 25, 2019, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM @ Calvert Marine Museum

    The Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) and Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center (AMG) are joining forces again to bring Homeschool Day to Solomons on Monday, March 25, 2019. This year’s theme is Celebrate Maryland! Programs are designed for students in grades K-5, but all ages can discover something new. All activities are included with CMM and AMG admission. Students can expect to spend the day learning about Maryland and its symbols. A morning session will take place at CMM from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. AMG will have lunch space from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Afterwards, participants are invited to continue Homeschool Day activities 3 p.m. BINGO cards will be available upon check-in at CMM. Students will complete their cards by looking for items at both locations, and return it to AMG for the chance to win a prize. Pre-registration is not required for Homeschool Day.

  7. Phillis Wheatley Living History

    Celebrate Women's History Month! Shemika Berry will present a living history on the life of Phillis Wheatly, the first published African-American poet. "Born in Africa in 1753, Phillis Wheatley was kidnapped at the age of seven and sold into slavery. At nineteen, she became the first black American poet to publish a book, Poems on Various Subjects: Religious and Moral. Wheatley's poetry created a sensation throughout the English-speaking work.

  8. Diversitying the Geosciences: Lessons in Culture, Inclusion and Community Engagement

    Despite efforts to increase recruit, the geosciences lag behind other STEM fields in gender and minority representation. The disconnect between recruitment and retention has motivated national efforts to consider why our field has failed to reflect the communities we serve. Dr. Lora Harris will present an overview of this challenge along with her efforts to tackle the problem through basic research into the mechanisms and barriers affecting representation and specific programs designed to make progress towards diversifying our field.

  14. Calvert Stewards: Flag Ponds Nest Box Monitoring

    March 30, 2019, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Flag Ponds Nature Park

    All Ages, under 18 with adult After a short presentation about our nest box project, volunteers will trek around the park to learn the nest box locations and prepare them for the season. Be ready for a 1.5 mile hike over moderate terrain. Interested volunteers can monitor them as little as once or as many as 12 times between April and July.
