    The Shaping of America: a painter's perspective September 27 - October 26, 2019. Main Gallery Join us for an art exhibition featuring the paintings of ten women artists who see and experience the genre of landscape painting in uniquely different ways. Inspired by the written word of American geographer D.W. Meinig, the exhibition highlights how each painting embodies the idea of "landscape" as experienced through the hand of the artist and the eye of the viewer. Your idea of what "American Landscape" is will twist and turn with each layer of painted material.   2. CalvART Gallery Presents: Jefferson Patterson Park

    CalvART is a cooperative gallery located in Prince Frederick, MD, and affiliated with the Arts Council of Calvert County. calvART is a showcase for artists from Southern Maryland and highlights work from a wide range of styles and media. Our artists excel in paintings, pottery, jewerly, sculpture, woodturning and photography. calvART highlights artwork by the Southern Maryland community and partners with community groups and organizations for its shows. You are always welcome to browse, and spend a part of the day looking at our artwork and meeting the artists. Consider joining us at our monthly receptions and special events.   3. When Darkness Falls: Night Explorations

    With the setting of the sun, the transition from day to night stirs within us a sense of mystery. What secrets does the night hold? What dreams and mysteries can be uncovered? When Darkness Falls will exhibit imagery that depicts night as the setting of the work. Artwork will reflect on why we are drawn to the darkness, and the unknown. Work will dramatize darkness, examine the juxtaposition of illumination in darkness, explore symbolism related to darkness such as gloom and superstition and reveal the mystery cloaked in wonder of the night.

  4. Fossil Field Experience

    October 19, 2019, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Cove Point Lighthouse

    At 9:00 a.m., you will meet CMM educators at Cove Point Lighthouse. In our Visitor Center you can learn about Miocene fossils and what to look for. From 9:30 to approximately 11:30 a.m., you will explore the beach to search for fossilized shell, bone, and sharks’ teeth. Lunch is on your own. Picnic facilities are available at the museum. Report to the admission desk at the museum by 1 p.m. to get your admission sticker and to meet up with the educator. You will get a guided tour of our fossil hall and have an opportunity to explore our fossil prep lab. Working with the museum educator, you will identify the fossils you have found. The program ends at 2 p.m., and you are welcome to continue to explore the museum on your own. Wear appropriate clothing for beach combing, and bringing a change of clothes is recommended.

  8. Live Music with The Billy Hubbard Band and Seafoam Green

    This event will kick off at 6pm with one of Southern Maryland's own legends John Lusky. Then we are graced with The Billy Hubbard band, coming from Knoxville Tenn. Billy Hubbard is an Americana singer/songwriter that has sublime storytelling lyrics, with a scruffy voice. Paired with The amazing voice of Bethany Jean. As if that is not enough for the evening of musical mastery. We are next entertained by Seafoam Green a duo from Ireland. The Hollar Entertainment has planned an evening of singer/songwriter's that will bring up emotions and laughter. You will for sure go home with a unforgettable memory that you will treasure. we will serve beverages and light food.
