    The Shaping of America: a painter's perspective September 27 - October 26, 2019. Main Gallery Join us for an art exhibition featuring the paintings of ten women artists who see and experience the genre of landscape painting in uniquely different ways. Inspired by the written word of American geographer D.W. Meinig, the exhibition highlights how each painting embodies the idea of "landscape" as experienced through the hand of the artist and the eye of the viewer. Your idea of what "American Landscape" is will twist and turn with each layer of painted material. Our artists excel in paintings, pottery, jewerly, sculpture, woodturning and photography. calvART highlights artwork by the Southern Maryland community and partners with community groups and organizations for its shows. You are always welcome to browse, and spend a part of the day looking at our artwork and meeting the artists. Consider joining us at our monthly receptions and special events.   3. When Darkness Falls: Night Explorations

    With the setting of the sun, the transition from day to night stirs within us a sense of mystery. What secrets does the night hold? What dreams and mysteries can be uncovered? When Darkness Falls will exhibit imagery that depicts night as the setting of the work. Artwork will reflect on why we are drawn to the darkness, and the unknown. Work will dramatize darkness, examine the juxtaposition of illumination in darkness, explore symbolism related to darkness such as gloom and superstition and reveal the mystery cloaked in wonder of the night.

  4. Costume & Candy Crawl

    The Shoppes at Apple Greene's Halloween Costume & Candy Crawl is back! Dress in your Halloween best and Trick-or-Treat at The Shoppes at Apple Greene! We'll have a costume contest, face painters, and balloon artists. We will also provide trick-or-treat bags to take along the route by Five Guys, or you may bring your own. This is a FREE event. Open to kids 12 and under, with adult supervision. We are excited to see you there!

  5. Halloween in the Garden

    Looking for something SPOOKtackular to do for Halloween? Annmarie Garden will host the 20th Annual Halloween in the Garden on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. More than 70 community organizations and businesses will decorate booths, don costumes, and hand out candy and treats to all the children. Some free activities will be provided and devilishly delicious food vendors will be present. Admission of $2.00 per person will benefit local charities including the Holiday Food Basket Program and the Annmarie Scholarship Fund. Parking is free and will be located in the field adjacent to the garden—follow signs. Dress the whole family and enjoy a day of trick-or-treating, art activities, lunch and more. Don’t forget to bring your camera--- there are always unique photo opportunities with the boo-tiful decorations!

  6. Hiking Tour of Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum

    October 26, 2019, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (JPPM)

    We will be starting at the Visitor Center: Nearly 70 archaeological sites document a remarkable and varied history that goes back thousands of years at JPPM. Through this special guided hike, visitors can learn about the 9,000 years of human history uncovered by the archaeology carried out on the park and visit an active archaeology site to witness the process first hand. *Please note this is an approximately 2-hour, 2.5-mile hike on various surfaces/elevations, and can be strenuous for new hikers. Dress comfortably and bring plenty of water, as there are no fountains along hike. The hike will end at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab, located on the park. Participants should pack a lunch to enjoy after the hike since there are no food amenities on the park. Following lunch, a guided tour of the lab will be offered.

    A costume parade just for dogs and dog lovers? This dog costume parade takes place on the boardwalk along the Chesapeake Bay the Saturday before Halloween. Owners walk their furry friends along the parade route where they are introduced and judged by the panel of judges. Prizes are awarded at the conclusion of the parade. ONLY DOGS CAN BE ENTERED IN THE DOG PARADE.

    Join ACLT’s experts and Master Naturalists for a great morning on Parkers Creek at a time when our wildlife is most active! You’ll be guided along the beautiful, windy creek, through its variety of ecosystems in the most pristine watershed on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. $15/person program fee. Please note canoe trips are physically strenuous and challenging. Not recommended for children 7 and under. Trip details will be included in a confirmation email sent after registration. Canoe trips launch in Port Republic, MD.

    Under the Drum Point Lighthouse, in the boat basin: Gather some friends and join us for the Aww… Shucks Oyster Social, the museum’s annual fundraiser for the skipjack, Dee of St. Mary’s. Indulge in the fattest and saltiest oysters on the half shell, enjoy heavy hors d’ oeuvres, beer and wine, and live music. Tickets are $75 each and will be available online. Proceeds from this year’s event supported the endowment for the Dee of St. Mary’s.
