    CalvART is a cooperative gallery located in Prince Frederick, MD, and affiliated with the Arts Council of Calvert County. calvART is a showcase for artists from Southern Maryland and highlights work from a wide range of styles and media. Our artists excel in paintings, pottery, jewerly, sculpture, woodturning and photography. calvART highlights artwork by the Southern Maryland community and partners with community groups and organizations for its shows. You are always welcome to browse, and spend a part of the day looking at our artwork and meeting the artists. Consider joining us at our monthly receptions and special events. Reception: September 14th 5-8 pm.

    The Shaping of America: a painter's perspective September 27 - October 26, 2019. Main Gallery Join us for an art exhibition featuring the paintings of ten women artists who see and experience the genre of landscape painting in uniquely different ways. Inspired by the written word of American geographer D.W. Meinig, the exhibition highlights how each painting embodies the idea of "landscape" as experienced through the hand of the artist and the eye of the viewer. Your idea of what "American Landscape" is will twist and turn with each layer of painted material.   3. Free Mac Lab Tours

    Enjoy a free behind the scenes tour of the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory, a state-of-the-art facility that houses over 8 million artifacts, including collections from every county in Maryland. The “Behind the Scenes” guided tour allows visitors to get up close and personal with our conservators and our collections. Reservations are not required. However, large groups need to make other tour arrangements, and may be charged a fee.

  4. Homeschool Friday: Scat Happens - PM Session

    October 4, 2019, 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM @ Flag Ponds Nature Park

    Animals live secret lives all around us, though most of us go through our busy days without even noticing what’s right under our noses. Nature Observation/ animal tracking is both science and storytelling, requiring us to critically observe and gather data as well as use our imaginations to interpret the signs we find. In this fall series, we will practice the skills necessary to become better trackers and observers. Each month will focus on a different topic. Our October class will cover animal scat (poop) and what it can tell us about our animal neighbors. Naturalist in charge: Tania Gale. Registration is required.

  5. The Edna E. Lockwood Restoration and Education Tour - CANCELED

    October 4, 2019, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM @ Rod 'n' Reel Marina

    One hour dockside educational tours describing shipbuilding and oyster history will be available. School trips will be scheduled from 9-2. Public tours are weekdays, from 2-6 and also available on weekends. Restoration of the Edna was a two year project. It was sponsored by a grant from the National Park Service. Shipwrights restored the deck, sails, rigging and hull, finishing in Fall 2018. The hull is comprised of nine hand carved pine logs. The Edna is 58 feet at the water line and 85 feet overall. See the last sailing bugeye oyster boat at the Rod ‘N’ Reel marina. Up to 1 hour tours to learn about ship restoration and early oyster harvesting. Great photo opportunity for the whole family.

  7. Friday Night Farmers' Market, Classic Car Cruise-In & Art Fair

    October 4, 2019, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ The Town of North Beach

    This weekly market offers seasonal delights from local farms including, fresh, flavorful fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs, cheese, meat, seafood, fresh-baked goods, cut flowers, and bedding plants. You can sample the wines from our very own Calvert County wineries and purchase by the glass or bottle. Classic car enthusiasts can enjoy viewing some of the coolest vehicles in the area at the Classic Car Cruise-In. The Friday Night Art Fair also will be taking place on Bay Avenue ( between 5th and 7th street) and is open to all artists who locally design, make and sell art. The vision of the NB Art Fair is the promote locally design art and produce creative and unique art. The Art Fair's program helps community-cased artist and art organizations make locally produced art available tot he community residents and visitors. Stop by and find some art work.
