Our artists excel in paintings, pottery, jewerly, sculpture, woodturning and photography. calvART highlights artwork by the Southern Maryland community and partners with community groups and organizations for its shows. You are always welcome to browse, and spend a part of the day looking at our artwork and meeting the artists. Consider joining us at our monthly receptions and special events.     The Shaping of America: a painter's perspective September 27 - October 26, 2019. Main Gallery Join us for an art exhibition featuring the paintings of ten women artists who see and experience the genre of landscape painting in uniquely different ways. Inspired by the written word of American geographer D.W. Meinig, the exhibition highlights how each painting embodies the idea of "landscape" as experienced through the hand of the artist and the eye of the viewer. Your idea of what "American Landscape" is will twist and turn with each layer of painted material.   3. 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness 5 K

    CalvertHealth's 10th Annual 5K Color Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, October 5th. Join the fun and run or walk around beautiful Solomons Island. Funds raised will benefit the Sheldon E. Goldberg Center for Breast Care. Chip timing provided. Young children and strollers welcome. No pets, bicycles or roller blades allowed. Early bird registrants guaranteed shirt and can pick up packets prior to the event. Dates to be determined. Event is rain or shine. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. Race Time starts at 8:30.

  4. ACLT's Parkers Creek Challenge- Triathlon with a twist!!

    Are you ready to take on the CHALLENGE? It’s a new course from last year’s event! This year’s ACLT triathlon with a twist starts with a round trip 9-mile bike ride between the ACLT South Side trail head on Scientists Cliffs Road in Port Republic, MD, and St. Leonard Elementary School in St. Leonard; running 2 miles to the Chesapeake Bay along Scientists Cliffs Road and through the Warrior’s Rest sanctuary; paddling a 3-mile round trip on the Bay and pristine Parkers Creek; and making the return 2-mile run to the South Side trail head. Only 75 slots available so sign up ASAP!

  10. Oyster Scald Cruise on the Half Shell

    How do you like your oysters? We like ours on the Half Shell! Join Half Shell Adventures for an oyster scald cruise aboard Southern Maryland's favorite historic buyboat. Enjoy freshly steamed oysters, a beautiful afternoon cruise, and our selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages for sale. Oyster tickets are $40 and include plenty of steamed (and some raw, if you'd like!) oysters plus your two-hour cruise on the Half Shell. Adults or kids 10 and under who want to join us for the cruise without the inclusion of oysters should purchase a $25 or $15 general admission ticket. We encourage you to bring your own food onboard, however, no outside alcoholic beverages are permitted. Half Shell is docked at our pier at No Thyme to Cook, located at 14624 Solomons Island Rd.   12. The Edna E. Lockwood Restoration and Education Tour - CANCELED

    October 5, 2019, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM @ Rod 'n' Reel Marina

    One hour dockside educational tours describing shipbuilding and oyster history will be available. School trips will be scheduled from 9-2. Public tours are weekdays, from 2-6 and also available on weekends. Restoration of the Edna was a two year project. It was sponsored by a grant from the National Park Service. Shipwrights restored the deck, sails, rigging and hull, finishing in Fall 2018. The hull is comprised of nine hand carved pine logs. The Edna is 58 feet at the water line and 85 feet overall. See the last sailing bugeye oyster boat at the Rod ‘N’ Reel marina. Up to 1 hour tours to learn about ship restoration and early oyster harvesting. Great photo opportunity for the whole family.
