With the setting of the sun, the transition from day to night stirs within us a sense of mystery. What secrets does the night hold? What dreams and mysteries can be uncovered? When Darkness Falls will exhibit imagery that depicts night as the setting of the work. Artwork will reflect on why we are drawn to the darkness, and the unknown. Work will dramatize darkness, examine the juxtaposition of illumination in darkness, explore symbolism related to darkness such as gloom and superstition and reveal the mystery cloaked in wonder of the night.

CalvART is a cooperative gallery located in Prince Frederick, MD, and affiliated with the Arts Council of Calvert County. calvART is a showcase for artists from Southern Maryland and highlights work from a wide range of styles and media. Our artists excel in paintings, pottery, jewerly, sculpture, woodturning and photography. calvART highlights artwork by the Southern Maryland community and partners with community groups and organizations for its shows. You are always welcome to browse, and spend a part of the day looking at our artwork and meeting the artists. Consider joining us at our monthly receptions and special events. November reception: Nov 9th 5-8 pm. December reception: December 7th 5-8 pm.

"JPPM in Paintings" is a free exhibit open to the public on November 9 through December 31. The exhibit is located inside the JPPM Visitor Center and features paintings from Suzanne Shelden. Suzanne's artwork captures some of the most beautiful and scenic places on park grounds. The visitor center is open daily year round from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM (visitor center closed the week of Thanksgiving and Christmas). The paintings on exhibit are available for purchase.

Presented by the Annmarie Gift Shop, the Ornament Show & Sale is a juried show that features hand-crafted ornaments by more than 20 regional artists. This is the perfect place to find unique and affordable gifts for friends and family. The ornaments are beautifully hung on trees displayed in the Main Gallery of the Arts Building. Visitors shop off the trees and take their purchases to the Gift Shop. The show kicks off before Thanksgiving and runs through early January. During Garden In Lights, the show is open late!

Join us for the most magical time of year as Annmarie Sculpture Garden is transformed into a twinkling wonderland! Annmarie Garden In Lights will transport you and your family to an enchanted world where they will discover glowing "light sculptures" and wondrous light installations. Discover wild animals, wintery wonderlands, musical holiday scenes, deep sea treasures, the art walk, fantastic heroes and villains, and so much more! New this year, dance under the woodland disco ball and draw on the glow-in-the-dark chalkwall. Pick up a Holiday I Spy guide (before you head outside) for some added fun! After your walk, experience the joy and warmth of the season in our beautifully decorated Main Gallery, where you will find live nightly entertainment (scroll down for full schedule), hot cocoa and treats from the Hardesty Holiday Cafe, and great shopping in the Ornament Show & Sale and the Annmarie Gift Shop.

From the moment Peter Pan eavesdrops at the Darling's nursery window and overhears Mrs. Darling reading "A Christmas Carol" to her children, Christmas becomes more spirited than ever before! Come along on this grand holiday adventure as Wendy and her brothers accompany Peter back to Neverland to share the story of Scrooge and teach the Lost Boys the traditions of Christmas. It's up to Peter Pan, the Lost Boys, the Darlings, and a comical, Dickens-inspired reenactment to show Hook the error of his ways and ultimately save Christmas in Neverland.

The Optimist Club co-sponsors with the Calvert County Fair Association the Annual Christmas Parade held in Prince Frederick on December 8th. The parade is traditionally held at the Fox Run Shopping Center in Prince Frederick. Community organizations, clubs, youth groups, high school bands, fire and rescue departments and many others participate in the parade, and of course Santa Claus makes an appearance.

After a blizzard shuts down the roads on Christmas Eve, a motley crew of travelers find themselves stranded at the local community center. From the lovelorn drama teacher with a bus full of students, to the quarrelsome couple on the way to their wedding, to the overeager Sheriff ready for some real criminal action, everyone has their own troubles to untangle. But to have a happy holiday, they’re going to need a miracle–or seven, to be exact. A spirited and heartwarming comedy with a healthy dash of Christmas magic.
