  1. FOLKSY Cultural Traditions and Outside Visions

    Date: Apr 26 2019 - Sep 22 2019 Gallery: Kay Daugherty Gallery Join us as we explore the wide realm of folk art, outsider art, and visionary art - and other artistic expressions that are often situated outside the world of mainstream fine arts. This exhibit will highlight the unconventional, the authentic, and the self-taught artists. What materials and perspectives are artists exploring? How are artists blurring the lines between fine and folk, maintstream and outsider? What cultural traditions, personal histories, or social commentaries inspire their work? What identities and issues are finding a voice? How does this work challenge our ideas and address the human condition? These and other ideas and expressions will find a home in this exciting new exhibit.

  2. Art Show: Birds, Bees and Blossoms (Reception August 10th 5-8 pm)

    CalvART is a cooperative gallery located in Prince Frederick, MD, and affiliated with the Arts Council of Calvert County. calvART is a showcase for artists from Southern Maryland and highlights work from a wide range of styles and media. Our artists excel in paintings, pottery, jewerly, sculpture, woodturning and photography. calvART highlights artwork by the Southern Maryland community and partners with community groups and organizations for its shows. You are always welcome to browse, and spend a part of the day looking at our artwork and meeting the artists. Consider joining us at our monthly receptions and special events.   3. Solomons Dragon Boat Festival

    August 17, 2019, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ Solomons Island

    The Solomons Dragon Boat Festival is a fun filled event of friendly competition and team building while raising funds for much needed programs for SMCR, Inc. Race day will be filled with intense, heart-pounding action and the sounds of Chinese drums will fill the air. A variety of entertainment, food, crafts and kid- friendly activities will round out the event. Dragon boats are narrow 40 foot long boats with colorful, hand carved dragon heads mounted on the bow. Powered by 16 paddlers, a drummer and a steers-person, everyone must work together to cross the finish line faster than their competition. Dragon Boating is an exciting team sport that encompasses the elements of power, speed, synchronization and endurance. It's a sport of inches and seconds – a thrilling event for both athletes and spectators.

  4. Fossil Field Experience

    August 17, 2019, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Cove Point Lighthouse

    At 9:00 a.m., you will meet CMM educators at Cove Point Lighthouse. In our Visitor Center you can learn about Miocene fossils and what to look for. From 9:30 to approximately 11:30 a.m., you will explore the beach to search for fossilized shell, bone, and sharks’ teeth. Lunch is on your own. Picnic facilities are available at the museum. Report to the admission desk at the museum by 1 p.m. to get your admission sticker and to meet up with the educator. You will get a guided tour of our fossil hall and have an opportunity to explore our fossil prep lab. Working with the museum educator, you will identify the fossils you have found. The program ends at 2 p.m., and you are welcome to continue to explore the museum on your own. Wear appropriate clothing for beach combing, and bringing a change of clothes is recommended.

  5. Goldenrod Jungle

    All ages, under 15 with an adult Butterflies, beetles, and spiders are just a few residents of the Goldenrod Jungle. We will explore the different creatures that live, hunt, and hide there.   6. Village Days at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum

    This free event inside our Woodland Indian Village provides hands-on instruction on various topics including pottery, mini poplar baskets, stone tools, fire and hunting. This class; From axes to hide scrapers, stone tools were an important part of the Native American life. Drop in and try your hand at using and creating different stone tools.

  9. Movies on the Beach

    Movies on the Beach and Drive-In Movies always start at dusk (the actual time varies). A local favorite; visitors are always WELCOME! The movies on the beach are projected onto a large, inflatable screen in the sand. Bring your beach chair or blanket and get comfy on the beach! In addition to movies on the beach, the Town is now showing a "drive-in" movie in September and October on the visitor parking. And the best part is, all the movies are FREE!
