  1. When Darkness Falls: Night Explorations

    October 11, 2019, 10:00 AM - January 26, 2020, 5:00 PM @ Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center

With the setting of the sun, the transition from day to night stirs within us a sense of mystery. What secrets does the night hold? What dreams and mysteries can be uncovered? When Darkness Falls will exhibit imagery that depicts night as the setting of the work. Artwork will reflect on why we are drawn to the darkness, and the unknown. Work will dramatize darkness, examine the juxtaposition of illumination in darkness, explore symbolism related to darkness such as gloom and superstition and reveal the mystery cloaked in wonder of the night.

Each year, we invite a different artist to develop and lead a meaningful project inspired by the life and legacy of Dr. King. This year, visiting Baltimore artist Gary Webb will guide visitors through the creation of a community art project titled, “Faces of a Dream.” Inspired by the art of Mr. Webb, the project invites guests of all ages to create a wire mask using using the artist’s “webbing technique” of twisting and bending different kinds of wire into a self-portrait mask. Each wire portrait will be added to an ever-growing wall of faces, celebrating the diversity and beauty of our community. Materials appropriate for different ages and abilities will be available.
