Enjoy the holiday season in Calvert County!
Kick off the holiday season at the north end of Calvert County by attending the “Light up the Town” event in Chesapeake Beach on Sunday, Nov. 25 starting at 4:30 p.m. at Chesapeake Beach Town Hall then “Light up the Town” of North Beach on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.
Next, make plans to be in North Beach on Saturday, Dec. 1 for the Christmas Market, Pat Carpenter Annual Holiday Parade and Christmas on the Beach. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. and the parade kicks off at noon with Santa arriving at the end of the parade.
Continue celebrating by taking a drive around the town of Chesapeake Beach any night in December to view the holiday light displays including a Christmas tree made of crab pots, and play “I spy” with the lighted waving crab that moves around town every few days. Decoration highlights can be seen on several free “Chronicles of Christmas” bus tours of the holiday decorations around the town on Saturday, Dec. 22 while historians tell the history of holidays past, co-sponsored by the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum and Town of Chesapeake Beach. Lastly, make a New Year’s resolution to take the Polar Bear Plunge Jan. 1 at North Beach!
Warm your soul with community goodwill as you attend an annual holiday parade sponsored by the Calvert County Fair Board and Optimist Club at Fox Run Shopping Center in Prince Frederick on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. Community organizations, clubs, youth groups, high school bands, fire/rescue/EMS units and Santa all participate.
Join the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM) Wreath Workshop on Saturday, Dec. 1 (two sessions available) and make a fragrant wreath for your home with greens from JPPM’s Point Farm gardens. (Reservations and fee)
Get out and get some fresh air this winter on a brisk walk or hike along one of Calvert’s many hiking trails.
Celebrate the holiday season at the 34th Annual Solomons Christmas Walk Friday, Dec. 7 from 4-9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8 from 4-8 p.m. Stroll the luminaria lit streets, pop into local shops and enjoy children’s activities.
Plan to make a stop at the Calvert Marine Museum Dec. 7-8 as well as for live musicians, punch and cookies and kids’ crafts from 6-9 p.m. While there, go shopping for everyone on your list at the museum gift shop. Museum members will receive 20 percent off all weekend.
Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center is the place to be in December with Garden in Lights featuring light sculptures along the wooden path almost every evening Nov. 30 through Jan. 1, 6-9 p.m. as well as their indoor Holiday Maker’s Market on Saturdays in December from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
