    CalvART is a cooperative gallery located in Prince Frederick, MD, and affiliated with the Arts Council of Calvert County. calvART is a showcase for artists from Southern Maryland and highlights work from a wide range of styles and media. Our artists excel in paintings, pottery, jewerly, sculpture, woodturning and photography. calvART highlights artwork by the Southern Maryland community and partners with community groups and organizations for its shows. You are always welcome to browse, and spend a part of the day looking at our artwork and meeting the artists. Consider joining us at our monthly receptions and special events.   7. MAC Lab Tour

    The Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab) is a state-of-the-art archaeological research, conservation, and curation facility located at Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, the State Museum of Archaeology, in southern Maryland. The MAC Lab serves as a clearinghouse for archaeological collections recovered from land-based and underwater projects conducted by State and Federal agencies throughout Maryland. The MAC Lab also houses a number of major collections acquired through private donation to the Maryland Historical Trust. All of these collections are available for research, education, and exhibit purposes to students, scholars, museum curators, and educators. Free MAC Lab tours are offered every Thursday at 11 AM and 1 PM by our docents. Please take some time and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to view the MAC Lab and learn more about the research, conservation and curation that is done there.

    Diane Daly is a vocalist of moody contrasts and evocative depth. One who cannot be easily pigeonholed into one particular style, Diane has spent her career exploring a world of music from the strictest classical solos to avant-garde cabaret. Over the years, Diane developed a style and delivery of jazz and blues that is all her own. She has been fortunate to share the stage with such notable musicians as Keter Betts, Paul Carr, Wade Beach, and Benjie Porecki, to name a few. The deep emotional connection Diane has with music is apparent from the opening notes, captivating her audience with a sound that emanates straight from the heart.

  19. Maple Tapping - from Sap to Syrup

    All ages and families, adult supervision required. Join the Naturalist to learn the process of tapping Maple trees to collect sap that can be boiled into delicious syrup. We will have an overview of the process and history of Maple "sugaring", then visit the our local Maple trees to get a first-hand opportunity to learn this simple skill. After we visit our trees, warm up by an outdoor campfire and toast a marshmallow. Program will be all outside, so dress for the weather.

  22. Chesapeake Bay's Health & Yours

    Learn about the health of the Bay, how it impacts our health, and how we can improve things for all Chesapeake Bay watershed members. Walter Boynton & Larry Polsky will talk about how ecological changes threaten both wildlife and humans. Some of these changes are the direct result of excessive additions of nutrients to the Bay and climate warming brought on by industrial greenhouse gases. Wildlife is threatened by oxygen depletion and other factors while humans are at risk due to the increase in harmful organisms such as vibrio and algae blooms. Learn what you can do to improve the overall health of the Bay and protect your health. There will be time for Q&A.
