  4. Working with the Muse

    An exhibit by the Studio Art Quilt Associates: Founded in 1989, SAQA now has over 3,600 members, including artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, curators, and corporate sponsors. Its mission is to promote art quilts and the artists who make them. Many artist, writers, musicians, and even scientists look to a “muse” as the source of their creativity or genius. Some artists find a muse by exploring their own innate creativity, while others seek experiences or stories to inspire. Works in this exhibition were created by members of SAQA’s DC, MD, and WV region, each working with their own unique muses.

    Ivanna Katenka, the mysterious airport security clerk, is hosting a wine tasting party at her home in the little town of Gladerock. Ivanna’s known for having excellent taste in wine and for providing a relaxing atmosphere for friends to come together. Nevertheless, since the last get together, many scandalous things have happened among this group of friends. Ivanna hopes everybody will let bygones be bygones. You've received the invite, and plan to attend her wine tasting! This is where your story begins...Do you have what it takes to solve the murder? Or is there something more sinister happening? Each guest will be assigned a character for the evening. You are encouraged to come in costume. Includes a three-course gourmet meal which you will enjoy as you work toward solving the mystery.

    Join the Naturalist to learn the process of tapping Maple trees to collect sap that can be boiled into delicious syrup. We will have an overview of the process and history of Maple "sugaring", then visit the our local Maple trees to get a first-hand opportunity to learn this simple skill. After we visit our trees, warm up by an outdoor campfire. You may bring your own marshmallows to toast. Program will be all outside, so dress for the weather.
