  3. Lower Marlboro Freedom Day

October 6, 2018, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ Lower Marlboro Hall and United Methodist Church

Lower Marlboro was affected deeply by the War of 1812. In July of 1814, British forces sailed up the Patuxent River, landed at Lower Marlboro, burned warehouses full of tobacco, and left with at least thirteen enslaved persons from the Ballard plantation near the wharf. Some of the houses that remain in the community were witnesses to these events. The celebration in Lower Marlboro will focus attention on the community and its history. Lower Marlboro Freedom Day celebrates the freedom of the thirteen people that were taken. This event provides opportunities to learn about the context of those events and much more about the history of the town.
