    The Shaping of America: a painter's perspective September 27 - October 26, 2019. Main Gallery Join us for an art exhibition featuring the paintings of ten women artists who see and experience the genre of landscape painting in uniquely different ways. Inspired by the written word of American geographer D.W. Meinig, the exhibition highlights how each painting embodies the idea of "landscape" as experienced through the hand of the artist and the eye of the viewer. Your idea of what "American Landscape" is will twist and turn with each layer of painted material.   3. When Darkness Falls: Night Explorations

    With the setting of the sun, the transition from day to night stirs within us a sense of mystery. What secrets does the night hold? What dreams and mysteries can be uncovered? When Darkness Falls will exhibit imagery that depicts night as the setting of the work. Artwork will reflect on why we are drawn to the darkness, and the unknown. Work will dramatize darkness, examine the juxtaposition of illumination in darkness, explore symbolism related to darkness such as gloom and superstition and reveal the mystery cloaked in wonder of the night.

  4. Race 4 Heroes 5K Walk, Run, Roll or Fly

    October 12, 2019, 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM @ Solomons Island

    Please join us on October 20th for Race 4 Heroes. Wear a super hero costume and be apart of the first Race 4 Heroes 5K Walk, Run, Roll or Fly. Tie those capes tight, bring your hero spirit and join other heroes as you complete a 5-kilometer run or walk through beautiful Solomons Island. Divisions - 11 & Under, 12-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-54, 55-64, 65+. Costume Contest - Best costume, most original, funniest, and cutest. The Mini Hero Run will start at 8:15 am and is open to runners aged 11 and under with a distance of up to 1/4 mile. Register for the Mini Hero Run at the Foundation 4 Heroes Booth at the event. It is only $10 to compete in the race; however, for a $20 fee you can also take home a Race 4 Heroes moisture wicking shirt. Then you will receive a F4Heroes sticker and an Anti Bullying sticker for admission to the race. All competitors will receive a medal for participating and there will be a winner too.

  5. Calvert Stewards Appreciation: Monarch Tagging

    October 12, 2019, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary

    Ages 10 and up; Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult Learn how to catch and tag monarch butterflies for Project Monarch Watch’s citizen science project. We will travel to a few different parks in Southern Maryland, hoping to catch some of these amazing migrants. Transportation is provided during the program. Please bring a lunch and plenty of water. Naturalist in Charge: Shannon Steele. Registration is required.

  10. Harvest Taste of Solomons

    New tastes abound in the historic Solomons Town Center as restaurants showcase selected food and beverages during the one-day food festival, The Harvest Taste of Solomons 2019 from 11am to 3pm, Saturday, October 12th. The event is one of the yearly signature events designed and sponsored by the Solomons Business Association. The Harvest Taste of Solomons provides the community a way to sample and enjoy a waterfront town during the fall season, according to Harvest Taste of Solomons Co Chair Charles Donaldson. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at any of the participating businesses. Each ticket can be exchanged for a sample of selected food or beverages. Substitutions may be made by the participating restaurants for food items on the day of the event. There are no ticket refunds.
