  6. Virtual Challenge - 50 miles for 50 Years - Calvert Marine Museum's 50th Anniversary

    This month, the Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) will turn a whopping 50 years old! To commemorate this major milestone, the museum announces its 50 Miles for 50 Years Virtual Challenge. Dreamt up by CMM Board Member Nancy Wieck, the challenge begins on October 18, the museum’s 50th Anniversary. From that date until November 18, the community is invited to participate by completing 50 miles of activity at their own pace and at their own place. This could mean walking, running, biking, hiking, swimming, or even skipping. Registration is $25 per person and participants will receive a commemorative sticker of the museum’s otter mascot, ready for exercise, in the mail.

  7. Guided Hiking Tour of JPPM

    Nearly 70 archaeological sites document a remarkable and varied history that goes back thousands of years at JPPM. Through this special guided hike, visitors can learn about the 9,000 years of human history uncovered by the archaeology carried out in the park. Please note this is an approximately 3-hour, 2.5 mile hike on various surfaces/elevations, and can be strenuous for new hikers. Dress comfortably and bring plenty of water, as there are no fountains along the hike.

  11. Tennison River Cruise @ Calvert Marine Museum

    Enjoy a leisurely hour on the river with a relaxing sightseeing cruise. You will sail the busy Solomons inner harbor, see Solomons Island and the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, pass underneath the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge and turn back at Pt. Patience and the Naval Recreation Center. Departures are from the Calvert Marine Museum dock. All cruises are weather permitting. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis and tickets will be available online and if seats are still available at the Admissions Desk. Maximum capacity is 20 persons. Accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities with reasonable notice. No strollers allowed. All passengers must wear a mask for this one hour cruise.

  12. Special Needs Night at Calvert Marine Museum

    This fun night for families with special needs is offered in cooperation with Calvert County Parks & Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Services. The museum will be open exclusively for individuals with special needs and their families or caregivers. Enjoy the skates and rays, fish, fossils, maritime history, and have fun in a relaxed and supportive environment. Shop in the Museum Store, learn about river otters, see a model train set up by the Chesapeake Beach Model Railroad Club, and board the Wm. B. Tennison for a 30-minute cruise! Carry out crafts and fossil ID bags are available. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for EACH INDIVIDUAL to access to the museum’s indoor exhibits and Tennison cruise. Proper face coverings are required when not in designated areas. Register by visiting the Calvert County Parks & Recreation website and search for Activity #170773 and #170774. Call the Parks & Recreation office directly at 410-535-1600, ext. 8204 or 8205 to register for the Tennison cruise.

  13. Magic Tunnel of Terror

    The Magic Tunnel Car Wash is joining in on the Halloween fun for the second year with the “Magic Tunnel of Terror.” During the event, staff will dress up in costumes and interact with customers as they ride through the car wash. Candy will be given to each person and child who enters. Each area of the car wash will show a different scene for guests to enjoy as they roll through. This is a prime opportunity to enjoy Halloween while social distancing. The Magic Tunnel of Terror is scheduled for Friday, October 30th through Sunday, November 1st from 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM each night. Enter if you dare. The wash will be to die for, filled with some frights and a bag full of delights! It's not a trick, it will be a real treat!
