The Child Find Program will screen, evaluate and work with families to develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for children aged three to five who are eligible to receive special education services. Special education services will be based upon a child’s individual need(s) and may include special education instruction (pre-school or kindergarten), speech/language therapy, physical therapy and/or occupational therapy.
The Calvert County Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) serves as a vital resource for enhancing the quality of early childhood education and care in Calvert County.
Established to bring together various stakeholders in the field, the council aims to foster collaboration among early childhood programs, ensuring a cohesive approach to education and care. By conducting thorough needs assessments and developing a comprehensive statewide strategic report, the ECAC is committed to addressing the unique challenges and opportunities within early childhood education, ultimately striving to improve outcomes for children and families in the community.
Head Start promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families through agencies in their local community. The Head Start program is authorized by the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007.
Parents can enter the Healthy Families program prenatally or before a baby is three months old. Family Support Workers partner with parents to help build a nurturing relationship between parent and child, provide information on how children develop and suggest ideas for activities for parents to engage with their child. Services are provided where it is most convenient for the participant – usually at home.
Healthy Families Participants receive connection to needed services such as help with food, housing, medical, education and training so that parents can focus on themselves and their children. In addition, participants receive:
Information on how children develop and learn.
Materials and ideas for activities to do with children to strengthen the bond between parent and child.
Knowledge and skills to help parents prepare children for success in school.
Support for parents with children up to age five.
